I'll Take (Almost) Any Work is a collaborative lookbook project between the artist Olja Simčič Jerele and Slovenian fashion designer Morja Zala, in which they explore alternative ways of archiving family memory.
Moving beyond the conventional family photo album, the duo investigates how textiles, places, and objects become carriers of familial history. They delve into the transformation of memory as it's passed down, examining who within the family takes on the role of its caretaker. Combining traditional editorial imagery, archival materials and other elements, they not only tell a story about family memory but also reflect on how this form of archiving has historically been women's work.
The fashion editorial featuring Zala's master's thesis project Vrtičkanje, Prtičkanje - a patchwork collection crafted from various family textiles, done at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering, Ljubljana – brings a romanticized lens to memory preservation, get is intentionally interrupted by the practical realities of maintaining such archives.
This is work, and there is a lot of it to be done.
This project was done as part of an ALUO Photography workshop under the mentorship of Žiga Testen and doc. Peter Rauch.
