Olja Simčič Jerele (SI, 1999) is an emerging photographer and visual artist.

She graduated from VIST - Faculty of Applied Sciences and she is currently finishing her Master’s in Photography at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana. In recent years, she has participated in several solo and group exhibitions both at home and abroad.

Her artistic practice explores the materiality and indexicality of the photographic medium and its strong connection to collective and individual memory. Using experimental analog techniques, she shifts photography away from its mimetic function and directs attention to its internal, semantic, and theoretical functioning. .In her work, photography is a process, an attempt or a gesture of connection that inevitably fails at the moment of its creation. Her work is morbid, yet gentle; based on theory and expressed through the prism of personal experience.

In addition to her artistic practice, she is currently working as a curator and coordinator at the DobraVaga gallery and runs a theory bookclub Tudi Bralni Krožek with her colleague Lucija Klauž.
